When you’re on the road in an RV you still want the comforts of home, especially when it comes to keeping clean. But with space at a minimum, knowing which toiletry items to bring, and how to keep them organized, can make your trip run more smoothly.
Keeping The Bathroom Organized
Bring Minis – Start by packing mini versions of the every-day products you use at home such as soap, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and body wash.
Many drug stores and retailers including Wal-Mart sell scaled down, or travel size, versions of most personal care products. Or consider purchasing affordable, and earth friendly, containers you can fill up at home and re-use again and again like these from The Container Store.
Use Hanging Organizers – Hanging door organizers with multiple pockets are a great way to keep everything in place while also saving precious counter space. Consider hanging a waterproof or mesh organizer in the shower for items like shampoo, conditioner, body wash and shaving cream and a second organizer over the bathroom door for hairdryers, combs and lotions.
Have Enough Hooks – Make sure you have enough hooks so wet towels, washcloths or robes don’t end up piled on the floor. These heavy duty suction cups from Amazon are repositionable so you can place them where they are needed most but move them without leaving holes or damaging your walls.
Don’t Clog Your RV Toilet
RV toilets are different than traditional toilets. They are often smaller, made of plastic and don’t use as much water to flush. They can also get clogged easily and a non-operational or clogged toilet is sure to ruin your trip. Many RV and motorhome owners even use special toilet paper designed to dissolve faster and eliminate the potential for clogs.
If you like the comfort of flushable wipes plan to leave them at home and off the list of toiletries to bring on an RV. Even in residential sewer systems flushable wipes clog plumbing and cause damage to municipal wastewater treatment systems. In New York City, regular wet wipes have caused $15 million in damage to their water treatment plant and the city is actively looking to ban them. Other cities are also trying to ban flushable wipes for similar reasons.
Fresh Assist® spray is an environmentally friendly, cleansing alternative to flushable wipes – and it won’t clog your toilet at home or on the road. Each 2-ounce bottle easily fits in a travel pack and provides 400 sprays.
Just a few sprays of Fresh Assist® on toilet paper provides the same cleaning power as a flushable wipe, but makes getting clean a lot easier and better for your RV toilet, and better for the environment.
